In addition to acting, Weathers also directed episodes of various television series, including “The Mandalorian” and “Law and Order,” and was busy with several projects at the time of his passing. His voice work in the “Toy Story” franchise as “Combat Carl” remains memorable.

Prior to his entertainment career, Weathers was a professional athlete in the NFL and CFL, playing for the Oakland Raiders and BC Lions, respectively. He studied theater arts at San Diego State University and furthered his education in San Francisco.

In his later years, Weathers ranched in Washington state and was honored by the Directors Guild Foundation, which named its annual golf tournament after him.
